Arusha police gun down two, foil robbery attempt on vegetable centre

 Police in the region have gunned down two suspected armed robbers who were planning to attack AVRDC, a world vegetable centre in Tengeru-Sing’isi area in Arumeru District.
 
The police also recovered a shotgun firearm believed to have been stolen from Nkoaranga health centre on February 25, this year.
Briefing reporters yesterday, regional police boss Liberatus Sabas said working on a tip off from good Samaritans, the force was able to foil the robbery attempt at the agriculture centre.
 
The incident happened in the early hours of Monday, according to Sabas.
 
Narrating the incident, Sabas said four men dressed in oversized jackets who were about to execute their plan were intercepted by a group of police officers and upon interrogation pulled out their weapons and aimed them at the officers.
 
“My boys became a bit suspicious of the four individuals and when they were quizzed on what they were up to they pulled out their firearms in defence,” explained the RPC.
 
According to Sabas, the police overpowered and injured two of the suspected thugs, with another two managing to escape.
 
The police managed to recover a L814574 shotgun and a CAR 69390 rifle. A magazine with eight rounds of ammunitions was also picked from the scene of crime.
 
According to Sabas, the two suspected robbers died while being rushed for treatment. Recently, Police in the region gunned down three suspected terrorists and recovered ammunition and materials used for making explosives as well as army uniforms.
 
The suspects were killed in an exchange of fire with the police, according to Sabas.
 
Unconfirmed reports indicated that the deceased may have been terrorists after they were found with two flags with Arabic inscriptions which are used by terrorist groups.
 
The regional police boss said an inspection in the residence of one of the suspects yielded an AK-47 gun with 18 rounds of ammunition.
Other items found included five pairs of army uniforms, one motorcycle and special masks used to cover faces, one pair of karate attire as well as five mobile phone handsets.
